WHY FLORIDA RVer?
By Alan Lidstone, editor

Welcome to the first edition of the monthly Florida RVer.

Florida is an ideal location for RVers, whether home-based or
visiting, and is the number one destination in the country for
winter visitors. Stretching almost 380 miles from the Panhandle
to Jacksonville, 345 miles from Jacksonville to Miami, and
170 miles from Miami to Key West, Florida has more than
1,400 miles of shoreline.

RVers can choose among more than 700 private, county,
municipal and military RV parks and resorts. An award-winning
state park system includes more than 150 locations, with more
than 50 of those parks and preserves offering camping
facilities, from rough-and-tumble wilderness locations
complete with gators to manicured resorts with tennis
and golf.

The combination of some of the most beautiful beaches in the
world along with National Parks, boating, fishing, golf courses,
theatres, museums and other attractions, provide fun, relaxation
and activities for all.

My wife, Barbara, and I are retired computer professionals. We
started camping in the early 1970s, and like many others, we
worked our way through tenting, a pop up trailer, a used RV needing
renovation, and finally in 1998 to a new Winnebago Chieftain.

This is the third time we've lived in Florida since Navy Pre-flight
at Pensacola in the Panhandle in 1960, almost eight years on Merrit
Island on the East Coast in the late '60s working at the Kennedy
Space Center, and returning to southwest Florida in 1993. We also
owned a timeshare in Marathon in the Keys, so we've pretty well
straddled the entire state.

Home-based in southwest Florida, most of our travels are from
Key West to New York, New England, and eastern Canada. We enjoy
RVing and sharing our experiences with others. We've been writing
about the RV lifestyle for three years.

Again, welcome to the first issue of this newsletter. In future
editions, we'll pass along a lot of helpful information about RVing
in Florida and point you to many websites that should help
make your RV experiences in the Sunshine State extra rewarding.

Thanks for signing up for Florida RVer, and please tell your friends
about it.

(NOTE: Florida RVer editor Alan Lidstone is the author of the
popular book RVing: Getting Out And Staying Out.)

theme parks and resorts.

strutting peacocks.

Round-trip bus transportation is available at no cost to all

MAINTENANCE TIP
To extend the life of your RV's windshield wipers, use an UV
protectant (such as 303 Protectant or Protect-All) on the rubber
and cover them when the RV is not in use. A small block of wood or
tennis ball under them will prevent the wipers from sticking to
the windshield.
